Measure the working position

Start with the chair, desk and equipment you already use. Measure the space available for a stand and note where your screen sits. Use a stable, appropriately sized temporary reference to explore height; do not balance a laptop on an insecure stack.

A raised laptop often changes the relationship between the display and keyboard. Consider where an external keyboard and mouse would go before buying a stand. A small desk can lose useful space if the stand’s legs extend beyond the laptop itself.

Compare the support, not just the label

Check the platform dimensions, load limit, support lip and the position of your laptop’s feet and ventilation openings. “Fits up to 17 inches” describes a broad size class rather than a guarantee for every chassis. Confirm that the actual laptop is properly supported.

A heavier stand may suit a fixed workstation but be inconvenient to carry. An adjustable model can offer flexibility, while a fixed riser can be simpler. Check the adjustment method and make changes with the equipment supported as the instructions require.

Treat comfort claims carefully

No stand in this guide has been tested by Tidcore for posture, cooling or pain relief. Manufacturer descriptions are not evidence of a health outcome for a particular person. Use the specifications to identify a fit, then assess your own workspace and any accessibility needs. If the current setup works well, a new stand may not be necessary.

Put the checks next to a real example.

Your before-buying checklist

  • Does the platform support the actual laptop footprint?
  • Where will the keyboard and mouse sit?
